En enero de 2026, la Casa Jean Monnet, a las afueras de París, fue escenario del encuentro Roadmap to further European Integration, organizado por el Consejo Federal Español del Movimiento Europeo. Cuarenta años después de la adhesión de España y Portugal a las Comunidades Europeas, representantes de organizaciones europeístas, académicos y miembros de la sociedad civil se reunieron para analizar los desafíos actuales del proyecto europeo. El libro recoge las ideas, debates y conclusiones de aquellos días, así como una declaración que propone un avance decidido hacia una Europa federal. Este aniversario es una oportunidad para recordar el significado político de la integración europea. Para España y Portugal, la adhesión supuso mucho más que el acceso a un mercado común: fue la consolidación de la democracia, la garantía de libertades y el refuerzo del Estado de derecho.El federalismo no es una utopía, sino una herramienta pragmática para preservar la soberanía en un mundo globalizado. La historia de España y Portugal demuestra que compartir soberanía no la debilita, sino que la hace más robusta. Este libro trata una necesidad práctica: construir una Unión capaz de actuar con coherencia y eficacia en un entorno internacional cada vez más impredecible. Las contribuciones aquí reunidas subrayan que el momento de tomar decisiones fundamentales ha llegado. Con este espíritu, la declaración aprobada y las reflexiones recogidas en estas páginas invitan a repensar el proyecto europeo desde la convicción de que la historia no espera. Europa tiene la responsabilidad de actuar: una Europa política, solidaria y federal.
